Having been on the easy list today was Barrington’s first day in the lunge pen, with just a few explosive moments he was very good. Lunging him will get him using himself properly and in the future I will put a possa on him to strength up his hind quarters and top line. The lunge pen has only gone in this season and will be surfaced before winter is upon us. I don’t know what I did without it, it is a vital space to warm horses up that may be cold backed or walk out of their box stiff. Pole work can also be introduced in there and it also doubles up as a small turn out pen for the horses coming off box rest that need a small area.
Star has also started her ridden walk, for a 4 year old she definitely grown up for her age, very confident to go out on her own will walk passed anything and nothing fazes her. She is also doing lunge work also side Barrington.
Dan and Tarquin are continuing their walking in hand and are both doing really well. Dan had his first day out in a small paddock after being stuck in his box for 4 months. Liz , Dan’s owner came to see what he would be like out, he was doped but was still alert enough to pull some good shapes. His knee held up as well as could be expected having fractured it. He will continue to go out and be walked in hand and as the time goes along the size of his paddock with increase. At this point he will go back to his old yard for the winter and comeback in the summer for re-training.
