Stars and Diamonds Racing Club

During the time between 2014 – 2024, The Stars and Diamonds Racing Club have had a great bunch of horses running under rules and point to pointing. All of these horses continue to live with Katie throughout their retirements, allowing the younger generation to come through the training ranks.

The Stars and Diamonds Racing Club has offered social memberships and racing memberships and over the last ten years, all members of the Racing Club have become very good friends of the yard. We had a big change in the 2025 season, the Racing Club introduced the second set of racing colours in which Elara will race in 2026. All members of the racing club have seen her grow from being just a few weeks old, and with training she is now a fully fledged Racehorse – all members have been such a big part of her journey and are looking forward to watching Elara race.

We now have two summer social events, held in Katie’s yard in Burbage. All tickets purchased by the Social Members includes food and entertainment with money raised goes towards charities close to the members of the Racing Club. Past events include, Bingo with Fish and Chips, Picnic, Quiz Night, Pizza and Race night, Hog Roast and Games. Lots of charities have benefited from such events over the years.

2026 – Social Dates

  • Saturday 27th June 2026 – Pizza and entertainment
  • Saturday 5th September 2026 – Fish and Chip Night with entertainment

Each social event is £15 per person which includes: food, drink and entertainment. All proceeds from both events will go the chosen charity for the year.

If you would like to come along to The Stars and Diamonds Racing Club socials, have a great time with the family, see the horses and raise money for great charity causes, please contact me.

Light of Elara

2021 Filly
Dartmouth x Starlette (Winker Watson)

Elara was bred into The Stars and Diamonds Racing club from mare Starlette. From a very young age, Elara was very independent, strong willed and loved to learn and please.Katie was always trying to keep Elara’s brain busy without putting too much stress on the body. But Elara had other ideas and was always trying to run before she could walk. As a yearling, Elara attended obstacle days, to get her loading on and off the lorry and visiting new places. At 2yrs old, she did a summer showing in hand at local riding clubs. At 3 years old, she was ridden and had her first experience of being at a pre trainers. As 4 years old she continued her education by spending the summer of 2025 at trainer Ben Paulings, where she showed great promise. Every winter she will return home, as she is not a horse to go on very soft ground being flat bred.

In the spring of 2026, Elara’s bloods were wrong, Katie made the decision to keep Elara home for the summer, to allow the body time to absorb the supplements which in turn will correct her bloods. All being well Elara will return to training Autumn 2026 with the hope to hit the race course running in spring 2027, bumper and hurdling.

Elara is leased to the Stars and Diamonds Racing Club with 40 % available.

A 10% lease in ‘Light of Elara’ with The Stars and Diamonds Racing Club will be £300 per month, only when she is in training. Once home on her holidays no charge with occur.

A 10% Lease will include:

  • Owners and Trainers Badges to race meeting when she runs, race day tickets include
    • Refreshments normally a meal in the owners and trainer’s facilities
    • Access into the parade ring to stand in the middle to watch horse/s walk around
    • Access to winner enclosure if horse finishes in the top 4.
    • Extra tickets for the family can be purchased or given out if any spares
  • 10% of the Prize Money
  • Yard visits to the trainers and to watch her on the gallops
  • Visits to my yard in Burbage when she is on her holidays

If you would like to me involved with Elara and The Stars and Diamonds Racing Club please don’t hesitate to contact me.

The Stars and Diamonds horses over the years

TARQUINIUS  – (ran for The Stars and Diamonds in 2014 – 2015)

2003 – Gelding – TURGEON (USA) – SHANNON BELLS (FR) (NASHAMAA (IRE))

Tarquin’s racing career highlight would be to finish 8th in 2013 Grand National for trainer Gordon Elliott and he gave me my first Cheltenham runner as a point to point trainer at the Hunter Chase Evening meeting in 2015. Unfortunately, he sustained a career ending injury and was fully retired. Since 2021, Tarquin had to come out of retirement to look after and teach the youngest members of the equine team Elara, Rosie and  Jimmy, he also likes to  keep an eye out for the rest of the horses on the yard.

STARLETTE – (ran for the Stars and Diamonds in 2018)

2011 – Mare – WINKER WATSON – IMAGINEMYSUPRISE (MUDADIL (USA))

Star had a difficult start to her training career at just turning 4 years old, I was her 3rd home in 6 months, she showed aggression which was anxiety.  It took a long time to zone in this behaviour which is why Star didn’t run until she was a lot older. She sustained a tendon injury whist running under rules which finished her racing career. Starlette has very good breeding lines with the magnificent Secretariat being Star’s great great grandad, so it was a very easy decision to continue this bloodline. Star gave birth to ‘Light of Elara’ in May 2021 and full brother Orion in 2023.

CARUMBA – (ran for the Stars and Diamonds between 2018-2022)

2010 –  Gelding – (GOLD WELL – SARAH MARSHALL (IRE) (FLEMENSFIRTH (USA)).

Carumba has run in 37 races over 6 point to point seasons finishing in the winners enclose 14 times. During covid years he ran under rules and took the racing club to many great days out. After racing, Carumba was semi retired into the showing ring – in hand for 4 years, picking up plenty of rosettes.  He retired fully from showing in 2024 after a hock injury, since then he has done a stint of looking after the younger ones coming through the yard, but now enjoys a quieter life with his safety blanket that is Paddy the Shetland.

CULVERWELL  – (ran for the Stars and Diamonds between 2018-2024)

2011 – Gelding – MIDNIGHT LEGEND – GIVE ME STRENGTH (IRE) (FLEMENSFIRTH (USA))

“Lewis”, as he has been known as since a 4-year-old, has finished in the point to point winner’s enclosure 10 of his 15 runs pointing. Having ran under rules finishing 4th at Market Rasen March 2022. He might be little but is a tough. Lewis never showed how good he was on the race track due to an ulcer in his throat which was blocking 80% of his wind pipe for most of his career. Lewis would give 110% in his races, its just a shame the weakness in his respiratory system wasn’t found till later on in his career. At 13 years old, late 2024, Lewis still had the fire in his belly to race but his breathing and body was letting him down, while he still wanted to ‘do’ after retiring from racing, the decision was made to send him to the National Racehorse College, in Doncaster to teach the youth of today how to ride racehorses. He is now home and enjoying full retirement, having also looked after a few of the young ones coming through the yard.

PADDY

2000 – Gelding – Shetland Pony

Paddy has been at the yard since 2015. He originally came to the yard as a companion for the rehabilitation horses on box rest and restricted turnout. He is a rescue Shetland pony from World Horse Welfare, very little is known about his history but Paddy is brilliant with children, he will stand beautifully for them to groom and brush him. He used to enjoy walking up to the local infant school to see the children for pet week and also takes part in walking the streets with a bucket raising funds for the schools PTFA during scarecrow weekend. Even though he is loaned from World Horse Welfare he has a home for life with us.

Charities supported by The Stars and Diamonds Racing Club

2018 – Air Ambulance

In 2018, the yard was opened up to the public to introduce Carumba and Culverwell to the racing club, where we had a collection and a raffle. A cheque was presented for £600.00 to the Air Ambulance with some of the racing club present. As a family an accident occurred while on holiday in Devon in the 1997, so we know firsthand what this life saving charity does, the helicopters run solely on fund raising alone and is crucial for a lot of racing and equine accidents.

2021 – Little Princess Trust

During covid years, hair dressers were closed, and my hair was growing very long it made sense to continue to grow it for The Little Princess Trust, for them to make the hair into wigs for children that have lost their hair during cancer treatments. When allowed to do so after all covid restrictions were lifted, we had a Summer Fete which included games like hook the duck, splat the rat, marble in a jar, along with a hog roast. All donations (£210) together with my hair was sent to the trust.

2025

Having had two summer evening events in 2025, Bingo and Pizza, and Race Night with Fish and Chips. There are two charities close to the racing club this year, so it was fitting to split money raised between them:

  • Muscular Dystrophy (£300)
Two members of the racing club attend the muscular dystrophy support centre who do amazing work in providing therapies free of charge to support people living with muscular dystrophy (M. D.)
  • Royal British Legion (£300)
One member of the racing club has been involved with the British legion cycling challenges, taking on the RBL’s Netherlands Liberation Trail 2025, to celebrate the nation’s official liberation day, cycling 300km in 3 days. In 2024, he was also involved in pedalling Normandy beaches to mark the 80th Anniversary of D.Day landings with the Royal British Legion

Member experiences

Racing club members share their experiences of being part of the club

“Very friendly and welcoming yard. Plenty of open days to view the yard and catch up on what is happening. Good days out at the races”.

“Having been interested in National Hunt racing for many years and a previous member of a large syndicated racing club. I was looking for a small racing club to join where I was treated more like an owner rather than a number. In the last year this has been the case whether its race days or stable visits I have always been made to feel important and welcome. Katie always makes herself available to discuss the individual horses training, welfare and future plans. The transformation of the two horses since they joined Katie is incredible and I very much look forward to the forthcoming season”.

“A very well organised club, Katie works extremely hard with the horses. She is a very caring person. She always keeps us fully informed on what has been going on through her newsletters as well as making you welcome whenever you visit, especially with young children. The social events at the stables are excellent with lots of wonderful food”.

“ I am enjoying being a part of Katie B. Frisby Point to Point Racing and Rehabilitation. The horses in her care have improved greatly and it is a joy to see them mature and develop. I have visited the yard quite frequently and am always given a warm and welcome. It is exciting to be part of this racing club and I look forward to more enjoyable visits and seeing ‘the boys’ race”.

“Great set up, friendly members. Happy to be part of the team”
